The Story of Us

February 13, 2002 was the first day I met Ben Wilson.  How romantic to meet the day before Valentine’s Day, huh?   I thought so too!  It was during our last semester of high school that Ben and I met and eventually started dating, so in a way I suppose we were high school sweethearts even though we went to different schools.  Ben’s prom was our first date and we’ve pretty much been inseperable ever since.  Seriously, just ask our parents.  In the fall we left our homes in Colorado for separate colleges in Oklahoma, but we continued to date for the next two and half years.

I eventually transferred to the University of Oklahoma where Ben was attending, as I was a member of the same church and had become very involved with him in campus ministry.  It was during our time in college that we fell in love.  We have so many precious memories of those years and love to reflect back on them.  It was during spring break our sophmore year that Ben proposed to me on the beaches of Waikiki during a vacation with his family.  I was shocked and ecstatic all at the same time!  We returned home and spent the next year and four months planning for marriage and of course, our wedding.  It was such a special time for the two of us.  On July 30, 2005 we were married before all our friends and family.  It was the most amazing day of our lives!

We still had another year of college left after we were married, so our first year of marriage was especially memorable and unique.  We went to class, went to church, learned to cook together, studied, and attended OU football and basketball games every chance we got.  We learned more about each other and marriage every day.  Needless to say our first year was wonderful!

Soon after we graduated from OU in the spring of 2006, we left for California where Ben was to attend Talbot School of Theology at Biola University.  During our four years there Ben worked on two masters degrees, a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology.  I worked as a Human Resources Generalist for a large dental corporation.  We enjoyed our time in California and we especially enjoyed the weather!  With such mild weather, Ben and I got in the habit of taking long walks together.  We both look back fondly over our walks together and all the conversations we had during those hundreds of hours of walking.

At the end of July we celebrated our five year anniversary, which just seems crazy.  In some ways we feel as though we have known each other forever, and then it also feels like we just got married.  We have been so blessed by the gift of marriage and are truly thankful to God for the ways that He has grown us and shown us so much love through each other.
